The concept of Lego Technic came about in 1977 and was branded Expert Builder series but was consequently changed to Technic in 1984. Sets are often characterised by the special pieces such as gears axles and pins. Other special pieces include beams and plates with holes in through which axles can be installed. Some sets have pneumatic pieces and some have electric motors (otherwise known as Power Functions) included. Technic is for the slightly older child or more advanced Lego builders, with some sets tempting the most advanced AFOLs!
